The Bento Box

"From industrial kitchens to humble homes" - This Japanese tradition has transformed the average lunch box into something quite extra-ordinary!

This is a traditional Bento containing fish, tempura prawn, pickled vegetables and rice.

A Bento (meaning convenient or convenience in Japanese) is a traditional Japanese Lunch box which holds various ingredients. Not only is this dish healthy and nutritious, it has also become a popular lunch time snack around the World. The Cape Town Fish Market has introduced their version of the Bento as a part of their menu. 

There are a number of varieties of the box, the latest version being the kyaraben - Character Bentos decorated to look like Japanese cartoon characters.
